Winter Formal

This semester's winter formal had a mesquerade ball theme and was held at Enzo downtown. Spirits came dressed to impress in formal attire and many even rocked a mask - everyone looked gorgeous!

A lot of girls went to dinner with their pledge classes and dates before formal began. The whole night was the perfect way to celebrate the end of a long semester of hard work and everyone had a blast!

Initiation Brucn

Initiation Brunch took place on December 5, 2010 at the Iron Cactus downtown. This semester all of the 26 Weenies that were tapped in got initiated as new Texas Spirit actives! After enjoying the fabulous buffet at the Iron Cactus the Weenies and JIs swapped gifts and paddles and the Weenies performed their skits. Finally, the Fall 2010 Weenies were scarved and sworn in as the newest Texas Spirit actives.

A number of awards were also given out at Initiation Brunch to a handful of particularly outstanding Texas Spirits in several different categories. Below are the winners in a few of the categories:
Best Ghoulfriend Pair: Taylor Forman & Julie Reyes
Best All-Around Weenie: Dana Holmes
Best All-Around Spirit: Sharilyn Stone
Best Spirit: Hannah Waitt

Because it was the Fall semester, this Initiation Brunch also featured the passing on of officer titles as the 2011 Ghost Council was officially scarved in. Each current officer said a few words to the organization and the new officer as they passed on their title and received their GC alumnus drop.

Congratulations Fall 2010 Weenies and Ghost Council 2011 on all of your hard work and dedication to Texas Spirits!

Fall 2010 Tap-Out

This semester we had 25+ girls tap out of Spirits. Although we all cherish our time being a Texas Spirit, every good thing must eventually come to an end. This year's tap out featured a video of tap outs giving advice and sharing favorite memories, personalized songs were played as each girl received their black alumnus scarf, tap outs each received a homemade Spirits scrapbook, and of course tap outs "willed" things to their families remaining actives.

Thanks to all of our wonderful tap outs for all of the hard work and dedication they put into this organization for the 5+ semesters they participated - you will all be missed!

Thank you Emily Slattery and Callie Coulter for helping make this year's tap out such a special event!

Special Recognition to....

On November 13, 2010 Texas Spirit Kaitlin Kaufmann completed the San Antonio Rock 'n' Roll Marathon. That's right ladies, all 26.2 miles! The race benefited Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Kaitlin is also planning to run the Austin Half Marathon in February and has started a team (TEXAS FIGHT) with a few other Spirit actives.

Congratulations on your amazing accomplishment Kaitlin!

Shout Out To Our Club Soccer Girls!

Congratulations Caitlin Cash, Shannon Funke, Hannah Waitt, and Caroline Suter on getting second place at the Women's Club Soccer National Championship November 20, 2010! We are so proud of all the hard work you put into the season.

The National Championship Game took place in Colorado and was played against University of California Santa Barbara. The game went to overtime and still ended in a tie, so was then decided in a heartbreaking round of penalty kicks.

Great job ladies, and we look forward to see what you girls bring to the table next season!

Band Jam

After originally starting in 1995, Band Jam this year was held at the Parish and featured three bands: Calhoun, The Frontier Brothers, and What Made Milwaukee Famous. Band Jam is a charity concert and is our biggest annual event. Fundraising takes place all semester and all the proceeds from the event and other fundraising efforts go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and granting the wishes of hospitalized and terminally ill children. This year, we were able to raise over $17,000 for Make-A-Wish and help grant 3 kids wishes.

Thanks to our Service Haunts, Meagan Sanders and Kayce Sebree as well as to all of the other Band Jam committee members for making this year's concert so great!

Weenie Service Project

On November 20, 2010 the Fall '10 Weenies completed their pledge class service project. The ladies woke up early Saturday morning to visit The Summit Assisted Living Center. At the event the girls did arts and crafts with current residents including things like Thanksgiving leaves and turkey hats. The girls also delivered cards to many of the rooms and visited with those living in the complex.

What a great way to start out a Saturday and get in the spirit for Thanksgiving!

The Last Mixer of the Semester!

Texas Spirits mixed with The UT Club Ice Hockey team on November 17, 2010. The mixer's theme was "The Office" and was a fun night of meeting new people and bonding with other Texas Spirits members.

A big thanks to Brooke Rogers and Amanda Chavira (above) for all the hard work they did over the past year planning all of the Spirits events!
