Wrangler Bar Tab

The first week of classes, Texas Spirits celebrated coming back to school with the Texas Wranglers at our semesterly bar tab. It was held at Pure on Thursday, January 20th and was a pleasant surprise to unsuspecting Texas Spirits actives. 

The night was full of fun and dancing and everyone in attendance had a great time. We are looking forward to having many other activities with the Texas Wranglers throughout the semester! All in all, it was a great way to get the semester's social scene started off with a bang.

Micah 6 of Austin

Last Saturday morning a group of Texas Spirits volunteered at Micah 6 of Austin, which helps "to meet the needs of the homeless and the impoverished in the University of Texas campus area." Girls worked in different areas at Micah 6 doing a variety of jobs to help out from playing with kids in the day care area, to bagging fruits and vegetables in the pantry, to stocking shelves and bagging groceries, they were able to help with all kinds of aspects of ensuring the food pantry run smoothly that morning. Above all, getting to interact with members of the community (as well as other Texas Spirits) was a special experience for those in attendance.

If you missed out on this service opportunity, don't worry because our lovely Service Haunts have signed us up to volunteer at Micah 6 at least four more times throughout the semester - so don't miss it again!

Texas Spirits Featured on KEYE-TV (CBS-Austin)

You don't want to miss this! Texas Spirits were featured on Austin's CBS TV station recently. The story featured Drag Paint, one of our oldest traditions, as well as our UT-Most awards gained throughout the past four semesters. A number of actives were also interviewed during the story about other elements of our organization including the service we do on and around campus.

Texas vs. A&M Basketball

On January 19th, 2011 we had our first official game credit opportunity: UT Men's Basketball (then ranked #10) vs. Texas A&M (#11). Of course any Texas-Texas A&M game is going to be a big rivalry game, so Spirits got there early, decked out in casual uniform, and cheered our boys on to the finish in what proved to be one of the rowdiest games of the season so far.

In a game that was expected to be pretty evenly matched, the Longhorns ended up pulling out a huge victory over the Aggies with a final score of 81-60.. it wasn't even close. Sorry Aggies, maybe next time.

Great job UT Men's Basketball, way to make us proud!
