Spirit of the Week: Ashley Cubley

Name: Ashley Cubley
Hometown: Clear Lake, Texas
Major: Pre-Pharmacy & Psychology
Weenie Class: Fall 12

What Does Texas Spirits mean to you?
A continuation of a tradition of love for this University, the Austin community and each other that has been 75 years in the making. Every girl is this organization is an inspiration to be a better person, student, longhorn and friend. I feel truly lucky to be able to call them my best friends, and this organization my home.

If you could have dinner with anyone, whether living or not, who would it be and why?
I’ve always had a weird obsession with the Medieval period of England. I would love to get to meet someone who was alive in that time period to hear what life was truly like. (They only showered twice a year back then though, so maybe a freshly showered person from that time period!)

If there were a holiday in your honor, what would it celebrate? And how would you celebrate?
MAC AND CHEESE! I think this is truly an underappreciated food item. With so many different options for cheese types, the endless array of toppings (Bacon anyone?) and the variety of noodle shapes it’s the perfect dish for every day. And we would of course celebrate by eating Mac and Cheese all day long. It would be glorious.

Spirit of The Week: Ally Willauer

Name: Ally Willauer
Major: Biomedical Engineering
Hometown: The Woodlands, TX
Weenie Class: Fall ‘12

What does Texas Spirits mean to you?
For me, being part of Texas Spirits is an honor and very dear to my heart. Spirits became my home away from home during my first year at UT. Each week, I am reminded of the truly extraordinary women that are a part of this organization. I am inspired to strive not only do my best, but to do my best to serve this organization, the UT community, and the Austin community.

What did you do over spring break?
Over spring break, I went to New York with my boyfriend and his family in addition to spending time back home with my family. I enjoyed being able to relax with family and those close to me.

Tell us a bit about your experience at Texas THON!

Texas THON was phenomenal! Texas THON is a student-run philanthropy that recruits UT students to raise money for Dell Children's Hospital here in Austin. THON hosts a dance marathon where participants stand for 12 hours in support of those who cannot. The Texas Spirits THON team went above and beyond in terms of fundraising, morale and teamwork. We were even awarded Most Spirited / Most For The Kids team! I was proud to be the captain of such a great group of girls, and I am delighted that we were able to give back to the Austin community by uniting with fellow UT students.

Weenie of The Week: Nikita Ahuja

Name: Nikita Ahuja
Major: Business (planning to declare Marketing).
Hometown: Plano, Texas
Weenie Class: Spring ‘14

What does Texas Spirits mean to you?
Texas Spirits means a motivational family. These girls inspire me to be a better me everyday. They provide a safety net (disclaimer, I'm about to get REEEAAL cheesy), and it makes trying new things and working harder that much easier, because I know if I fail, someone will be there to catch me (warned ya).

What did you do over spring break?
Over spring break, I went to New York with the McCombs Diversity Council for a company field trip and got to network with some amazing companies like NBC and ABC Disney, visit my cousin, and eat some unbelievably delicious cheesecake and Venezuelan food. Then I went back home and played with my cats and slept a lot.

What has been your favorite moment of weenie semester so far?
My favorite moment of weenie semester has been (ugh it's so hard to pick) but probably at Weenie O'ahu during the weenie dance... or meeting Abz while dancing on a speaker. OR the car ride on the way to Weenie Roast (S/O to my car/tent group). Wait.. or AT Weenie Roast under the stars with Haley Qualman. I really can't choose.

Christmas in March: Weenie Beanie Spring 2014

This past week we had one of our favorite traditions: Weenie Beanie! It is our excuse to dress up in adorable/hilarious costumes as each family receives a new addition (or two). Every weenie is matched up with their own JI and has to dress up in a costume set out for them and run to the tower to find their family in matching costumes!

Name: Hannah Roberts
Major: Public Relations
Hometown: Sugar Land, Texas
Weenie Class: Spring ‘12

What does Texas Spirits mean to you?
Texas Spirits has made my college experience much more than I could have ever pictured. After transferring in the middle of the school year my sophomore year, Texas Spirits helped make the transition much easier. I have met the best people through this organization and am very sad to be tapping out this semester.

If you had to eat one cuisine for a year what would it be?
Chinese type food. In Sugar Land there is this Thai restaurant that I could eat every day!

Any Spring Break Plans?
My parents are actually in the process of moving to California, so a friend and I are heading out there to visit.

What is your favorite athletic event to attend as a Spirit and why?
I am an avid sports fan so I enjoy all the athletic events we attend. Football is definitely high on the list for favorites though. I have never experienced anything like a Texas game day before and I absolutely love the atmosphere at the games.

To me, Texas Spirits is my family. It's where I can be myself and receive acceptance and love. It makes me strive to not only be my best, but be my best for others.

If you could be one character from the Office, who would it be and why?
I would be Dwight Schrute because how would I describe myself? Three words. Hard-working. Alpha male. Jackhammer.

What was your favorite part of Weenie Roast?
My favorite part of weenie roast was when Nikita Ahuja and I discussed life under the stars and she asked me "does this mean we're best friends now?"
