Keeping it Spooky, Since 1941

All Hallo’s Weenie
Spooks, Ghouls, Haunts… there is no doubt that the Halloween spirit is reflected in our 70 year-old Texas Tradition. To get into the spirit of the season, take a look at our spooky past…

Texas Spooks 1971
It’s All in the Name:
Grace Doss and Wanda Lee Turner founded Texas Spooks in 1941. Why Spooks you ask?... In order to reflect the organization’s secrecy.
Shhh…It’s a secret:
The 30 member organization would secretly meet in restaurants and sorority houses dressed in “ghostly garb” of hoods, masks and sheets.
Spooky Serenades:
The members would light red candles and sing to the football players in order to “spook” away bad luck.
Drag Paint Disguise:
Drag paint would be conducted in the middle of night, in order to keep our organization under wraps.  We keep this tradition alive today with our Midnight Drag Wars every semester.
HalloWEENies:
We call our beloved new members, Weenies, because they used to be welcomed into the organization on Halloween.  The name has stuck ever since.
This is Why We're Haunt:
In 1966, our Executive Board, tagged the name Haunt to the end of their titles, and are referred to as Ghost Council.
Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun:
In 1970, we started up our big/little sister program, and lovingly refer to our matches as Ghoulfriends.
The Symbol:
The skull and crossbones aren’t so scary when you add the cute little bow. Say hello to Casperella… Caspy , for short, our mascot.
CIWY:
For us to know, and you to never find out…
CI Happy Haunting! WY
