Tap-Out Spotlight: Katie Koehler

This week our tap out spotlight is Chief Haunt ‘11, Katie Koehler. She is a Fall ’09 Weenie and will be graduating in Spring 2013 with her MPA degree. After graduation she plans on working for Ernst and Young in the Austin office and serving in public accounting for a couple years before going off to “teach/work in a national park/start her own business.”
Katie’s favorite Spirits tradition is the night of Initiation. Here is what she shared with us: “I can't divulge in the details, but I will say that it was freezing cold and I still get made fun of for being the only one out of my Weenie class to cry both at Initiation and PJ Rama. I'll never forget how great it was to finally become a Spirit.”

When asked about her favorite memory in Spirits, she couldn’t choose just one. “I could maybe narrow it down to one per semester? How about a couple of highlights? From my Weenie semester - favorite memory was the morning of initiation brunch, when literally 30 minutes before the festivities started, my pledge class was still running around trying to make sure everyone was up. Fall 09 - you remember what I'm talking about! Favorite memory from JI semester - the stories from summer recruitment. Favorite memory as an active - being able to serve on Ghost Council!”

Katie’s advice to younger Spirits is to “be yourself. Truly let go of your hesitations and expectations and know that you have found a place where you belong. The beautiful thing about Spirits is that we're all weird, quirky and awkward, just looking for a place to call home. And we've found it! So ENJOY the wonderful women around you. Let your hair down, put up your feet, and relax. Laugh. Soak up the traditions, the spirit, the service, the love and the friendship. AND remember to be thankful.”
Katie, you have been an amazing Chief Haunt and such an inspiration to us all. We are going to miss you dearly. Best of luck to you in pursuing your dreams!
